the matses are an indigenous people living in the peruvian and brazilian amazon. they speak their own distinct language that derives from the panoan root. at the moment there are approximately 2500 matses living on both sides of the frontier
matses people had been living in complete isolation until 1969. today they still live in a very traditional manner and mostly depend on hunting, fishing and gathering.
